@RTD: did that make you smoothly faceless, a horror-movie-face-teared-off zombie, or did you get his face in return? Some of this might make the asking awkward indeed

I don't always listen to Scharpling's show, but I tuned in on Tues. night and he played a totally awesome thing, the Frankie Teardrop Audio Collage, made out of pure madness. Almost Fabio-esque.
Avatar 4:24pm
Loren:

"Are you out of your firkin mind!?"

Oh man, Carm, the Rube sounds like a plan... unfortunately, I'm so damn exhausted, it would not be fun for me and the folks sitting next to me. It is one of those places where they should have a sign that says: NO SAD BASTARDS ALLOWED. Thus, I would not be admitted today.
Avatar 4:27pm
Loren:

I've got to mind wrestle and exchange poorly worded rhetoric with someone, be back in a bit. Fabio, could you put the show on hold till I get back? Thanks, appreciate it!
Avatar 4:28pm

Ike - he's actually done that a few times over the past few weeks but this past's Tuesdays blew my freakin mind.
Avatar 4:32pm

Loren, that would knock out about half the current clientele. But I'll tell you what: for the next month, I will wear FMU T-shirts exclusively while visiting the Rube. You'll find me sooner or later.

Avatar 5:29pm
Ike:

RTD & Fred, I found that track much more fun than a lot of Jane's A. because the whiny squeaky vocals were mixed a LOT lower than Jane's. Or they didn't quite hit that same eardrum-piercing EEEEP. I have a weird thing about some vocals though, so don't take me to be indicative of anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
fred:

@Ike: that reminds me of how I would prefer to turn the bass up on my EQ when listening to PiL's metal box
Avatar 5:32pm
Jeremy N:

Hey Fabio, can you shed any light on who might be behind that Zanagoria LP? I found a copy ages ago and found zilch about it except Keith Fullerton Whitman wondering same... Also, you picked my fave track!
Avatar 👻 5:33pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Ike: likewise, I have a weird thing about vocals. In my case it's: I dislike 99% of it all. Folks just need to stop mewling about & make the noise.
  5:34pm
Shamu:

Hey Ike, I hear you on that. If I were in a band I would not want to sound so much like some other band, especially a famous one. Oranganality, man.
Avatar 5:37pm
kirk from beer city usa:

@Tim: Not that I know of. On a related note, I feel that WIDR (or any free-form station that is online) should emulate WFMU as much as possible, including this listener chat thing here. It's fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
fred:

@RTD: Mostly agreed, but I'll grant Keiji Haino an exemption. I've purely vocal shows of him that had more noise than most noise bands, and made people leave covering their ears, always a good sign
Avatar 👻 5:40pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

My wife & I have this conversation sometimes: folks clearly hear music differently. She's very vocal & lyric focused, but I never pick up on words & meaning. It's just vocal sounds mostly.

It's realism vs. escapism. I'd rather not stay rooted to this plane when the headphones are on. Relating to another human spirit and soaking in their drama is NOT NOT NOT NOT why I digs zee musicks.
Avatar 👻 5:41pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

oh hell, Fred: vox as sound-art opens up a whole different thing. Amen to that.

Hey Fabio, I love this raga. There is a great comp from the Darjeeling that has a lot of great music, wonderful selections of some Indian, classical, and pop.

@RTD: unsolicited tip: enough beersies can turn an insightful singer-songwriter into sound art. Though whisky reaches the goal quicker
Avatar 5:48pm

Its no mistake that Can is so popular. You can sing sounds instead of words. They actually sound much better to me.

I definitely love some vocalists and a few lyrics, but that's usually secondary to the music for me, at least outside of a bit of classic country and a few other things.

there are songs I've listened to for years, and only much later come to comprehend the lyrical content.. nice surprise occasionally. Thought it was mee just being dumb, but I'm in good company, so, not so!

raga:

The "Unknown Artist" playing the raga is almost certainly Ustad Bismillah Khan.
