Favoriting May 6, 2014: You've Got To Fight... For Your Right... To Exist!
Tonight I welcome Howard L. Feinstein, author of Fire On The Bayou: True Tales From The Civil Rights Battlefield, a new book about the enforcement years of the Civil Rights Act and Howard's time as an attorney for the Department of Justice, prosecuting corrupt sheriffs, KKK members, Neo-Nazis and other perpetrators of hate and violence. Mr. Feinstein has some amazing stories of his years on the road in the 60's and 70's, confronting bigotry, racism and evil. Howard is also known as "Hurricane Howie", a killer on the keys, who's played piano, keyboards and accordion with an impressive cross-section of musicians.

Listener comments!

Scott Blake:

I wonder if Mr. Feinstein has ever heard about the David Rice & Ed Poindexter (aka Mondo and Ed) case in Omaha, Nebraska, 1970.

Scott Blake:

The Ku Klux Klan also burned Malcolm X's childhood home in Omaha, Nebraska, 1925.

Matt:

I wonder if Mr Feinstein has any legal problem with "hate crime" prosecution. Some have suggested it offers unequal protections for victims. Thanks for a mention.

Can Howard comment on the "Stand Your Ground" laws that have been in the news earlier this year?

See you next Tuesday! (Sorry for Bogarting Chris' line.)

“Hate Crime Happy Hour” would be a great show. Each week a victim of a hate crime comes on the air, talks about it & then gets to pick songs that reflect their feelings.
