...Bowie was revered as a Gawd by the trendiest chic-est Hipsters - & was neck & neck w/ McCartney for richest Rawker (unitl Bono's Apple stock)
- but he never forgot he was a boho freak: he didn't get Huge until years into his career. He was the epitome of the British Art School (or @ least Art Class - Peter Frampton's dad his teacher in fact) Rawker...Nearly a Buddhist Monk &tc. ...a Mime...

To be fair, the 1990s Bowie I could never get into. I just respect his pre-1980s stuff and “Let’s Dance” was what brought him to me as a teen in the 1980s.

Indeed! He had a presence that none of the MTV herd had. The "Let's Dance" video was an amazing political statement and a catchy as hell song. And agreed, sound & vision - you can't get more simplistic, yet visceral - calculated, but sincere.

I have a "Rarities" disk with the German version of Heroes ("Helden"). I picked it up in London when I was maybe 13, on a family trip. The vinyl was very floppy. It had some other cool stuff on it.
  10:14pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Revoluation Rabbit--did you read that bit that Belew wrote this week about the dinner he had with Bowie and Zappa? Terrific. Zappa knew Bowie was stealing Belew and Zappa kept calling Bowie "Captain Tom" with a two word prefix that was not happy birthday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm

Speaking of musicians who worked with Bowie, I have to put a vote in for bassist George Murray. Man, he was great. What about the bass line in Ashes to Ashes? I mean, really.
