A Giant Dog is a name of a band, right? We're not talking literally a giant dog in the studio (though this being WFMU, you can never be sure)

Hi errybody. I'm still at work :(

What other bands out there start with an indeterminate article? The only other one I can think of is A Raincoat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
Kat in Chicago:

Cliff: good thing it's a band, since Evan was just talking about two people in a giant dog. I'm reminded of Groucho: ''Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.''

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

@efd: It was a good set. For the encore, they did 4 or 5 Big Star songs.
It was a venue that was part of the bowling club in the suburb I live in. So tiny but nicely packed. I think the night before, they had supported Wilco in a 500 seat venue that is in the suburb next to me and that I sometimes jog past.

cool, thanks melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm

That Goon Sax song was pretty funny. In particular, the line about looking like Shane Warne, who is an Australian cricketer, womanizer, major douche bag, former advertisement advocate of a hair replacement company.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Are there CD players that send the output to some FM frequency and you set the radio tuner to that?
  10:56pm

Signing off and reaffirming new-found affection for A Giant Dog - tho still thoroughly baffled about the dearth of the indefinite article in band names. I feel the grammatical torrent will linger for a while.
Thanks for the groovy stuff, EFD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm

The name "Goon Sax" reminds me of "Gunne Sax" — a prairie-ish line of clothing that was popular in the '70s.

that was some major flounce happening, Bootsie: Gunne Sax
  11:01pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

@Bootsie: In Australia, "Goon" also means the cheapest nastiest cask wine.

@Ken: I don't think so but there are devices that plug into a 3.5 mm output jack that can then transmit to a FM frequency.

80's synthpop is best listened to on cassette. The size of the ferrous particles on the tap have a particular resonance with the waveforms created 80's vintage synthesizers.
