	8:03pm David D: Well, there are surely plenty of people who listen to a variety of interesting stuff (and some even to WFMU streams!) just like anywhere else. But you will almost never hear this sort of thing broadcast, except if someone like me plays it on local community radio.

	8:13pm Flash Strap: I've always been medium enthusiastic about Guru Guru but Neumeier is such a great drummer it's insane. If you make it to the end of the show, there's a crazy track with him from 1983 I hope to fit in

	8:16pm David D: Most radio in Germany is very, very commercial and mainstream. There are one or two cultural stations with classics and a variety of jazz and some interesting stuff as well, but usually with long, long reports on various issues in-between. And then there are local community stations like the one I'm at (right now in fact), where you can hear whatever the show hosts want to play or say.

	8:19pm coelacanth∅: Thanks David. that's about what i thought, though maybe slightly more dismal than i'd hoped!
	8:21pm Flash Strap: at least they have community radio stations! those are not as abundant as they should be, stateside
	8:22pm David D: Yes, I always broadcast from Radio Blau. Usually (though not tonight) I simulcast the first hour on FM radio here. Radio Blau then goes off the air to give way to another station on the same frequencies, while I continue on the stream from the same studio for another two hours.

	8:24pm coelacanth∅: - this makes me wonder though... i know the commercial stuff is at least pretty bad; but is it as absolutely unbearable as most and quite likely ALL the commercial stuff in the us? (obviously an objective opinion!)

	8:25pm David D: Yes, there are community stations, but not everywhere of course. It would be interesting to compare the situation here and in the States.

	8:32pm northguineahills: @David D: So, not quite as bad as most American radio stations? Crap, in my listening area, only the two NPR stations are the only non-vomit-worthy stations on the air. Even the college stations were sold to Clear Channel in the early 90s.

	8:41pm David D: @geezerette: Yes, I either listen to the streams of WFMU and occasionally other stations from around the world. or music of my own choosing of course. It's great to have all this here!

(Carrie Brownstein & Katell Keineg); and one because shaking his hand sent extraordinary tingles up my arm. (Thomas Mapfumo)

	9:39pm coelacanth∅: the saw is a gorgeous instrument in the right hands. (ie, Okko Bekker... also the saw player on Joanna Newsom's "cosmia" on her 3-track ep)
	9:40pm Flash Strap: Two of these guys are from Kraan, a jazz-rock group in Germany. Asmus Tietchens is I guess sort of a proto industrial electronics guy. Okko Bekker is a weirdo who's most famous for an album of extremely psychedelic sitar covers, and we get the rare Plank instrumental performance

	8:16pm David D: Most radio in Germany is very, very commercial and mainstream. There are one or two cultural stations with classics and a variety of jazz and some interesting stuff as well, but usually with long, long reports on various issues in-between. And then there are local community stations like the one I'm at (right now in fact), where you can hear whatever the show hosts want to play or say.

	8:22pm David D: Yes, I always broadcast from Radio Blau. Usually (though not tonight) I simulcast the first hour on FM radio here. Radio Blau then goes off the air to give way to another station on the same frequencies, while I continue on the stream from the same studio for another two hours.

Okko Bekker is a weirdo who's most famous for an album of extremely psychedelic sitar covers, and we get the rare Plank instrumental performance
