there were a bunch of 'c' named regulars commenting on a former show on fmu; so much so that the comments area became affectionately known as the c-section.

oh it's the new, revised c-section

That is funny, Chris. Okay, I'll stay in the section - at least until someone breaks the c-pell.

Hey Henry and Fred! Looks like I'm back to Ds now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm

i can be a david. i've told the tale already but many people have thought i am david...my whole life, and over a 3000+ mile span
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm

@coel: Many people have thought I'm a Chris, maybe I could have pulled it off
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm

On board now. I was following in my car before..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
David D:

I've found that people often confuse David and Daniel, but that makes sense I guess.
  3:41pm
Dean:

Ds need to stick together.

Chris speaks of Diane Kamikaze Fun Machine. I was a proud listener, and never once did I feel pressured or marginalized by Cs.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
chris:

glad to hear it, Dean! no marginalization was ever intended. :) i've never truly identified as a Chris, btw. never came up with a better name, either. so we'll settle on the lower case, then.
  3:45pm
Dean:

I identify as Eleanor Roosevelt, but that's just me. Well, and Franklin, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
David D:

Hello Dean - yes, no letters need be in the margins here (unless they so choose of course).
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm

wow, its been a minute since i listened to the Klezmatics. dig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm

Sorry, Eleanor-Franklin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
coelacanth∅:

it's funny, fred -i've known so many Chrises (not counting the females, which would more than double the number) and though the appearance varies quite a lot i still have a basic image when i learn of a chris. i know i'm way off sometimes.
i haven't been acquainted with many freds. only one i can think of, and you don't look like him, i'm sure! i know this because he could never be mistaken for a chris!
  3:52pm
Dean:

Warm it up, Kris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
fred:

@coel: I think much of that comes down to a place and time when a name was popular. Which obviously doesn't work for Daves, who are everywhere throughout time
  3:56pm
Dean:

What are the odds? I invoke FDR up-thread a few minutes ago, and just now I turn the page in a book I'm skimming about exploratory data analysis and up pops an example featuring FDR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
coelacanth∅:

fred -and richards...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
coelacanth∅:

(mikes, even more so)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
David D:

Yes, Mikes beat Daves out for 1st place in my age cohort, in any case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
fred:

That's were place comes into play: I don't know any French Richard between 20 and 60, and only one Mike (though I do know several Michelles)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
coelacanth∅:

i think michael has been the most popular boy name the majority of the time for many decades now -at least in "western" culture. (i think the most common male name in the world is mohamed)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
fred:

@Dean: And FDR just popped up in an article I'm reading right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
David D:

Ah yes, I meant in my age group where I grew up, the US. David has only become more popular here in recent years, Michael seems to be well represented everywhere, though.

Dean:

The eerie ubiquity of FDR...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm

i haven't known many french people, but i did know a Michele (sp, for males?), a Domonique (sp?) an Antione and a Maxime...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
coelacanth∅:

(i think i got Antoine wrong too!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
coelacanth∅:

i think Pete only penned a little of turn turn turn, most of it being taken from the bible?
  4:22pm

I've met an Alganesh and a Nilufar, and I toyed with naming offspring Montserrat or Pilar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm

Avatar 🚂 4:22pm
Carmichael:

Yep, book of Ecclesiastes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
coelacanth∅:

he wrote this one right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
David D:

Coel: Yes, the hammer is his - not the Estonian version of course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
fred:

@coel: That would be Michel (or Michael) for males (Michele or Michelle for females) and Dominique for either
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Coelocanth - yes, with Lee Hays. Seek out WASN'T THAT A TIME, a documentary of putting together the Weavers final reunion concert (yeah, like A MIGHTY WIND, but for real).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
David D:

In Germany, there is a law that names have to be recognizable as either male or female, and if not another (middle) name has to be added that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Webhamster Henry:

Pete was great and easy to run into if visiting Beacon. He was very generous and as he lost his singing voice, he took to touring with choirs, and he just told everyone else to sing along, which they did anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
fred:

@David: my German boss finds it hilarious that some people in France have last names that are also common first names
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Webhamster Henry:

@David D I can't imagine non binaries are happy with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm

fred, thanks. many years ago. he was a very gifted psychic i knew in the 90s.
holy crap! i only know this by the 3 dog night version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
David D:

Henry: Very true. It is an old law, and I can imagine it being revisited at some point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
coelacanth∅:

David Wow! i'm surprised at that law! germany seems so liberal to me in matters such as that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
coelacanth∅:

oh, i see (@4.31) ...i know people weren't always so liberal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
coelacanth∅:

the first place i rented in new paltz (2002-2005) Pete Seeger visited regularly -for a group thing that my landlady hosted. i was home one time when he was there, in the living room, but i didn't want anything to do with what was going on in there so i stayed in my bedroom and never met him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm

Wow, that must have been quite a place, Coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm

David, it was...interesting!

And of course we didn't know the Icelandic words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
David D:

Few remember that third Icelandic verse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm

One (more) weird thing about Einstürzende Neubauten is that their shows in Paris are usually super-expensive. So much so that it's actually cheaper to go to like Brussels to see them, even by train
Avatar 4:52pm
still b/p:

Now, the similarity between "Little Boxes" and "There's a Pawn Shop on the Corner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania" is pretty striking. SO much so that i'm surprised it's not mentioned in info I could find in quick look, except for a comment on wiki Talk page on "Little Boxes."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm

@fred: They gave the NYC gig to someone who already lives there. Tried to start a freelance job last week, but my card cancelled, as the new one was sent to my NYC address, so, I have no working card. Went to the bank today to settle it. Now I can start (how to use my wife's card to download all of the necessary software).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm

Once upon a time, the Telarc 1812 Overture was the go-to for system-destroying levels, as noted here: https://www.stereophile.com/content/recording-october-1979-telarc-1812-overture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm

Many contemporary classical composers view themselves highly (I think it takes that to stay at it), it's refreshing to see one be upfront about it and make such a claim

@Brian in UK: I know two Lionels. One is a Japanese experimental music fan, not a match. The other is a noise guitar player who likes to play very loud, the "two much for Lionel" would make sense, but the soccer context doesn't fit. Google to the rescue: autocomplete suggests one Lionel Messi (I'm so ignorant about soccer)

I seem to remember a classical show on the station was it something 440?
