David what does the bicycly-adorned sign read?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
David D:

Good question, Coel - it says Bergbaugelände - Unbefugtes Betreten verboten! "Mining area, unauthorized entry prohibited!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
David D:

It used to be a mining area and now it's a lake, one of many in the area like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm

Hello, Brian. Just finished the John Peel book recently, what an astonishing tale! Thank you for that. To think he was the biggest Mark E. Smith fan in the known universe...

Hi Sem. I remember his favorite band at one time was The Four Brothers who played at his fiftieth birthday. One of my favourites, too.

Maybe I misremembered. Do they get a mention in the book?

TDK60. Going to see Fairports on 1st June. Same day as two English teams play the Champions league final. Bad timing.
Avatar 5:22pm

..not really complaining about this unusual chill as it will be *hotter than ever* soon enough..
Avatar 5:25pm
TDK60:

Brian in UK, where will you see Fairport C.? And which 2 teams will be playing or is that not known yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
coelacanth∅:

Brian, bad huh? there's about 8 weeds that challenge me year after year and i've gotten some of them under control (i'll never eradicate those) but there are a few that i've practically given up on.
the worst one i don't even know what it is. i call it the explosion plant, because if the way it propagates.

hi, David and folks. work is letting up enough for me to listen and comment.

coel, i have a weed in the garden that explodes its seeds everywhere when pulled, if i don't get to them before they mature:, which i almost never do.
Avatar 🚂 5:34pm
Carmichael:

June 1st would be Bridgnorth, according to their site. I've never heard of any of those towns; sounds a Tolkien world.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
Michael 98145:

@coel, it could be shot weed. i hate those to pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm
Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
David D:

Hello Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
Sem:

Carmichael: I visited Bridgnorth in February, site of the very first iron bridge in the world. Not quite Tolkien, but situated in a deep ravine, lots of tall tall trees, and all pretty wet and green. It's in Shropshire, hard by the Welsh border. Pure Fairport ambience, gotta say.
Avatar 5:40pm
TDK60:

..what this about weed?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
Sem:

Jewel weed, maybe. AKA Touch-me-nots.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
coelacanth∅:

yes shotweed it is. thank you Michael. i did identify it once, but forgot.
these where i work seed many times/year, not twice. they've already dried and exploded and it's not even warm out yet.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
Brian in UK:

TDK60 what Sem said. Shropshire could have been the Shire in his books.
Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur. The semi finals last week were such nail biting games. Sport like music can take you places.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
coelacanth∅:

i wish jewel weed were there instead. they're beautiful, useful and pretty easy to control.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
chris:

yeah, i'll take some jewel weed in place of shotweed as well, please.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
Brian in UK:

coelacanth∅: I have had to resort to a glyphosate based herbicide much to my reluctance, otherwise it will take over. Such a strong root system.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Brian in UK:

It is a bit like the black knight in Monty Python, you can cut it back and it will still survive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
coelacanth∅:

we actually plant things that some people call weeds in the bare or sparse patches in the lawn -with things that don't need to be mowed. (clover, wild strawberry, mock strawberry, thyme...) but shotweed is not pretty but for very brief periods, not lush or soft, and not always green.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
Brian in UK:

David I remember one of Tereyeh Reepdhal's albums called After the Rain from about the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm

Brian the owner of the property uses herbicides -bad ones; even though her water supply is directly below.
