Don-O:

Hey, Rich! This is what you (might have) missed in LA in the early '00's.
Avatar 6:06pm
Mr Fab:

i love how she was supposed to say "More stimulating talk radio" but would just mumble it. One of the things the station hated about her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm
Rich in Washington:

I did actually listen to Leykis in the mid 90s for some reason. I was sort of limited in what I could listen to at work at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
Otis Fodder:

This coffee catastrophe is excruciatingly brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
Rich in Washington:

That was wonderfully awful!
Avatar 6:12pm
spacebrother:

I mentioned that I bought some of April's old home-burned CDs when she was selling them on ebay about 10 years ago. I should dig them out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Otis Fodder:

We need to ask April to send us the cut for the Sheena's Jungle Room 24/7 stream and Fab, program it so it airs in the mix every 6 hours please.
Avatar 6:13pm
Mr Fab:

ha! Absolutely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Otis Fodder:

I want this guy's whole catalog, fantastic. I'm been a lost sheep wandering for so many years... until... now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh yeah. There should be a April collection.
Avatar 6:14pm
spacebrother:

@ Otis - Definitely.
@ Fab - Is she still thinking about having a show on SJR?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
Rich in Washington:

Especially this track. It really drives it home. Like a hammer and number four galvanized nail right to the forehead!
Avatar 6:15pm
Don-O:

Even Sheena is setting the Room on fire!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm

For some reason this reminds me of the bad radio announcer demo tapes that Richard Lyons of Negativland used to collect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
Rich in Washington:

BTW: It's also Richard Lyons' birthday today, as well.
Avatar 6:17pm
Mr Fab:

She is, spacebrother! Don-O and I were interviewed by The April herself (and host Marc Germaine) last night:
www.talkradioone.com...
I was quite thrilled.
Avatar 6:18pm
Don-O:

Merry Damned Birthday _____ Dick _____ !
Avatar 6:19pm

April contributed a horrible album of her father's to Otis Fodders' 365Project, hosted by WFMU's blog:

Avatar 6:20pm

@ Fab. Listened to it. I was in tears during the "Wing over the traffic report" segment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm

Was that show over broadcast radio? How did you listen? I tried looking for a stream when it was live but it didn't seem to be working.

Fab just posted the link to the show. The TRO interview had archived the show about an hour after broadcast and you should find it there....to listen to and download.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm
Rich in Washington:

I did listen to it this morning. I was just curious how folks listened to it live.
Avatar 6:25pm
Mr Fab:

yes, you could listen live. The big thing in the upper right corner that said "Listen Live" but it was actually just silence until the show actually started.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm

WOAH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm

Wow! This is a great story!

Chili Johns is a classic noir-era joint. Killer chili.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Rich in Washington:

Ah. That makes sense, Fab. I tried tuning in on multiple devices a few minutes before the show and assumed it didn't work.

This is delicious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm

I remember watching "Winchell Mahoney Time" before we moved back to Ohio. And this is Paul Winchell's daughter!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm
Otis Fodder:

April did, she played Bran Flakes (has it really been almost 2 decades)?

I really REALLY hope she jumps on Sheena's with a show. Whadda place huh with all these nutty DJs!
Avatar 6:44pm
Mr Fab:

Yep, she is Paul Winchell's daughter. And boy, does she have stories.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

She would certainly be a good fit with all you nutty DJs :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm

I loved her Regretsy project.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Rich in Washington:

What's the final word on The Day The Clown Cried? Did it get buried with Jerry? I thought there was some kind of declaration before he died that it would eventually be screened.
  6:47pm
TheNewLexGofer:

God, she's brilliant! I must hit the archives and pick this show up from the start...
Avatar 6:48pm
Don-O:

We're gonna have to wait 10 years AFTER Jerry's death to see anything from the movie! Whatta exit plan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
Rich in Washington:

Is that what he did in his will?
Avatar 6:51pm
Don-O:

No, his made an arrangement with some film library and that was the condition. WHAT the HELL is he hiding!?!

geezerette:

Granny, nice avatar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm
Rich in Washington:

I read a pretty good interview with him shortly before he died. He just said that it's really terrible and is ashamed of it and just doesn't want it to be subjected to needless ridicule. Something like that. He didn't defend it beyond he had money and production problems with it, sort of admitted he was in over his head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Otis Fodder:

Thanks Don-O for the Hour of April!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Rich in Washington:

I have a feeling we'll be watching it in some rubble strewn landscape by then, keeping an eye out for roving Amazon hunter killer drones.

Not sure if this thread/site is alive, but I'm a HUGE April Winchell fan. I have a large collection of mp3 shows from her KFI and KLAC days that I'm happy to share. Pretty sure my collection is missing a few episodes, so if anyone's got any to share let me know!
